also be sure to check out the awesome word art in his family photo album

*Rita Polk has a brother named Craig Moss who is much, much cooler than this guy. And much less likely to call you queer.

This is the 2nd post in a series about my “resolutions”
Resolution #2 “I Wanna Be More Structured”

So I can’t seem to find a job, and honestly haven’t been motivated to do much other than fill out resumes which isn’t helping when no one is hiring. So I am gonna work for myself.

Most of the getting started freelancing books and articles I have read talk about how important it is to have set hours and try to stick to a “work day”; so I am trying it.

Last night I created todays schedule:

9 am – Weighloss blog

10am - Make Blog tutorials

11am – Watch nettuts wordpress tuts

12 – Lunch

1pm – Clean Office

– clean up Big Drive

– clean up itunes

4 pm - Work Day Blog

5pm Clock out

This is what I actually did:

7am – Wokeup

8am – Watched Hulu

8:30am – Wrote the weightlossblog

9:30am - played Kdice (kdice.com)

10am - Made blog tutorial

11am – Left for the gym

noon – Walmart (roamed aimlessly)

1pm – kdice

2pm – watched american dad on hulu/cleaned

4pm – started thinking about dinner

5pm – roamed aimlessly about the internet

5:30pm – worked on Offbrand Studios mockup

6pm – wife home/clocked out?

The first part of my day was mostly a success. I stayed mostly focused and got stuff done. If I can manage to leave the apartment and come back and not completely lose focus I might have some hope.

This is the 1st post in a series about my “resolutions”
Resolution #1 “I Wanna Lose Weight”

Nov 28th 2009 was a day that changed my life forever. I dedicated my life to one woman. To love, cherish, and protect her for the rest of my life. We have pictures and video of the event and lots of friends and family came to see and wish us well. I stood in the front of the church fatter than I had ever been in my entire life.

Most people work to be the best looking ever on their wedding day. So they can look at pictures and remember how they looked. For women its the day they want to look the most beautiful they ever have. I even have friends who vowed to each other to look as good as they did on their wedding (or at least as much as they can) for the rest of their lives.

The beginning of my new life was an unhealthy one, and I will always have pictures to remember.

When we moved into out new apartment we received a free membership to a local gym, which included a free assessment by a trainer. My wife is a physical therapist so we went in planning on not agreeing to anything but what was free. But when you finish a workout in which you feel like death, and the trainer starts telling you everything that is wrong with you, its hard not to want to be better. To make things worse I occasionally would look at Jenn (the wife, the physical therapist) and see a look of concern for my health slowly growing in here. So Dec 19th 2009 was the day I got a personal trainer, Richard Odin, and decided to change my life again.

The next month was hard.  I had to eat a specific meal plan;

Male
Clean Up Eating Plan

7:00	2-3 eggs or 6-8 egg whites + 1 cup oats with no calorie sweetener
9:00	2 rice cakes with 1-2 Tblsp. of natural peanut butter or fruit
11:30 6-12 ounces grilled chicken breast or fish + 1 cup cooked brown rice + 15 unsalted almonds
2:00	2 rice cakes with 1-2 Tblsp. of natural peanut butter or fruit
5:00 6-12 ounces of grilled chicken breast or fish + 1 cup black beans + large green salad with vegetables & 2 Tblsp. light vinaigrette dressing
8:00 Protein bar (on workout days switch meal 5 and 6)

Optional Meal Replacements: shake or protein bar.
Optional Dessert (100 calories or lower + low carb count 15 grams or lower).
Supplementation: Contact your personal trainer for supplement recommendations
Seasonings: Use no-salt seasoning only
Condiments: Salsa can be used on egg whites and rice sparingly
Salad Dressings: Use vinegar & oil style dressings sparingly
Fluids:	½ – 1 gallon of pure water/day
Cheat Meals: 2 per week (anything you want within a meal, be careful, don’t overdue it, you could get really sick.)

and was working out a lot. I lost about 15 lb. the first 2 weeks, mostly from not eating much of anything, but I felt great.

The 2 weeks that followed that my diet was freed up so I ended up gaining a couple lb. rounding the month out with a lost of 11 lb. and a lot of muscle gain.

This past month things have been easier. I feel like I am eating fairly healthily, and my workouts don’t make me wanna crawl home and die anymore. This past week due to a change in policy Richard informed me he would no longer be my trainer and Patrick took over. He seems like he is gonna be a little more hardcore than Richard, so I might wanna die soon again. I hope to weigh myself again and take another picture in the next week, so check back for my progress and to help keep me accountable.

This blog should be title, the blog I have been meaning to write for a month.

2009 started at one of the lower points in my life. I was a year off of a failed attempt at hitchhiking across America, I was 25 and living in my parents house, and after a little over 6 months looking actively for a job the only thing I could land was an assistant managers job at Captain D’s. So the beginning of the year I was doing a lot of looking at things to come and trying to decide who I really wanted to be.

I had been dating a girl for about 5 years at this point and we had always said when she got done with school we would be getting married. She was set to graduate with her doctorate in physical therapy in August; but in classic Phil I still wasn’t sure.

For Jenn’s birthday I wanted to take her out for a very nice date, because it was the first time since we had been dating that I had any kind of real money. I took Jenn out for an incredible dinner (Jeff Ruby Steak House http://www.jeffruby.com/) and to see the Musical Wicked. This was the first night I really remember putting a lot of thought into engagement. Jenn looked beautiful (even though the power was out and we had to get ready at a friends house); the night was as nearly perfect as I could imagine.

Over the next few months I was working 50-60 hr weeks at the D’s with not much time for anything else. I finally saved up enough money and went to the jewelry store and picked out a ring. It was a big deal. I slowly paid the ring off while trying to plan the big day. Once the ring was paid for and in my possession I began planning the day. On April 25th I took Jenn to Red River Gorge for some hiking. I had recently purchased a new camera so we went under the guise of a photo journey. After a few hours of hiking around we went out to a lookout point and I asked an older couple if they would take my camera and start taking pictures. I then got down on one knee and Jenn said yes.

Dropping the knee @ Red River Gorge

The months that followed involved Jenn being far away in Chicago on an internship. The only truly notable event happened on Mothers Day. I was at work closing the restaurant when (due to my ignorance in using the backdoor after dark) a masked gunman bursted through the door behind me and I took the gun from him and chased him away.

The Proof

In August I bought my first new car. I purchased a Scion xd, by cashing in my clunker (96 Ford Explorer).

Ma Scion xD

As I write this I realize last year was kinda boring……

Oh well, in early october Jenn and I traveled to Manning SC where she had an interview. During our 8 hr drive she got a phone call from a hospital she had had an internship at the previous year in Charleston offering her a job. We had a large decision to make only about 30 minutes between her interview in Manning and when we need to let Roper in Charleston know. So she decided to go with Charleston. Neither of us were very excited about living in Manning and we had quite a few friends in Charleston, so it was a no brainer after a few minutes of discussion.

The Wife Celebrating Her Decision

In November I got married and went on a cruise. It was kinda awesome, rode a dolphin and climb a mayan temple.

We then immediately moved to Summerville Sc where we live now. Jenn is a doctor and for the moment I am a stay at home husband. I am trying to find a job in the design/production field, or possibly get work as a freelancer. The weather here is incredible; for now (not looking forward to summer)

Well that is pretty much my last year. But I am still very much looking to the future. Moving to a new place with mostly people who don’t know me is exciting. We can be whoever we want for the most part. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out who that is, and have made some resolutions.

I wanna lose weight. At my wedding I was the fattest I have ever been. Approx. 205 lbs, which is a lot for a 5′6″ guy.

I wanna be more structured. My wife is the most structured person I know, and as much as it drives me insane, I envy it.

I wanna be more motivated. I just want to have the desire to accomplish things, cause I currently don’t.

I wanna read more. This is a big one for me cause I used to read a lot. I don’t remember the last time I read a book. Like a whole book. I wanna start reading a book a week, if not more.

I wanna be less selfish and conceded. This is probably more of an in my head thing, cause I don’t let it out much. But I am a jerk. For those of you who know me, you just said something along the lines of “No, crap!” But really, I’m a super jerk. Take the jerk I am on the outside and multiply that exponentially. I just think mean things sometimes, and I need to stop.

I wanna be more social. I am kinda an awkward guy. I need to either stop that, or embrace it cause it holds me back a lot.

I wanna daily love my wife more.

I wanna learn something new about and fall more in love with my God daily.

I wanna discover nature more/take more pictures.

I wanna spend less time on the internet. !!!!!

and a Sauce (maybe eventually a line of sauces) to be sold in the store.

With life changes comes inspiration. There was a time when I blogged ALOT circa Xanga (http://offbrand.xanga.com/) and I hope to return to that. Until then I will equip one of the greatest bloggers I know. George Carter with all the tools he needs to entice your visiting eyes. Until next time.
